Syracuse Fire Department Announces ‘Ladder 4’ the newest piece of equipment will fight fires in tall structures.
The Syracuse Fire Department has placed a brand new ladder truck in service. This 76,000 pound vehicle will respond from Fire Station 9 (400 Shuart Ave.). Manufactured by Spartan LTI, the rig features a 110′ steel aerial ladder with a 1500 gpm waterway and remotely controlled nozzle. Ladder 4 is powered by a Cummins X15 565 horsepower motor with an Alison 4500transmission.
The 10k Harrison electric generator will provide power for the two 200′ cord reels and the bumper mounted Warn winch, as well as a portable winch. The cost of this vehicle was $960,000 before adding the Holmatro extrication tools that are pre-connected to an onboard hydraulic power plant. Along with a full complement of ground ladders, there is a 45′ bangor ladder. Ladder 4 will continue to perform 1st due truck duties in addition to responding to highrise building fires.
