Syracuse Fire Department Dispatched to Seward Street Fire

Syracuse, N.Y. – At approximately 4:04 a.m. on Friday Aug. 30th  the Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched to a report of heavy smoke in the area of South Alvord Street and Seward Street.  The Syracuse Police Department located a structure fire at 215 Seward Street.  In less than 2 minutes Truck 2 (2300 Lodi St.) was on the scene of the 1 ½ story wood frame dwelling with a fire in the basement of the home.  The Police Department and Truck 2 had just cleared from another unrelated alarm in that area.

The fire was spreading to the rest of the home as crews worked to search for potential victims and extinguish the blaze.  The building sustained heavy damage and was unoccupied at the time of the fire.

Fire Investigators have determined that the fire originated in the basement and was intentionally set.  National Grid secured the gas and electric service to the building.  There were no civilian or firefighter injuries reported.
