Syracuse, N.Y. – At approximately 6:38 a.m. the Syracuse Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 1407 South Avenue. Engine Co. 3 (808 Bellevue Avenue) arrived within three minutes and found a three story wood frame, multiple family home with a fire on the first floor. As additional companies arrived, multiple attack lines were stretched into the building and a systematic search for potential victims was conducted.
The fire was extinguished and no victims were found. The occupants of the third floor apartment were able to escape before the fire department arrived. The other 3 apartments were unoccupied at the time of the fire.
Damage was contained to the first floor. The occupants were alerted to the fire by working smoke detectors. Fire Investigators are looking into the origin and cause of the fire. The occupants are being assisted by the Red Cross. National Grid and the Syracuse Police Department were also on the scene to assist the fire department. No other injuries were reported.
