Syracuse, N.Y. – At approximately 1:42 p.m. on Monday afternoon, the Syracuse Fire Department responded to 117 Elliott Street for a reported fire. Engine Company 3 (808 Bellevue Avenue) arrived within minutes and reported finding two story wood frame multiple family home with heavy fire on the first floor and heavy smoke on the second.
As additional resources arrived, multiple attack lines were stretched into the building and an aggressive search for victims was performed. Fire companies were faced with fire venting from multiple windows on the first floor. The fire was extinguished and a large hole was cut in the roof to aid in removing the heat and toxic gasses. The search for victims was negative.
Fire Investigators have determined that the fire originated on the first floor, the cause is still under investigation. The home was vacant and had no electrical or gas service. National Grid was on the scene to ensure that these utilities were secure. The first floor of the building suffered heavy damage. The Syracuse Police Department was also on the scene. There were no reported injuries at this incident.
