Syracuse Fire Department Responds to Apartment Fire on City’s South Side

Syracuse, N.Y. – At 4:26 Friday afternoon, the Syracuse Fire Department was dispatched to 111 Roney Lane for a reported structure fire. Firefighters were on scene in 3 minutes, and found a heavy volume of smoke coming from a 3-story apartment building.

Crews immediately began extinguishing the fire while simultaneously searching for any trapped or endangered occupants. It took approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze, which was located in a first-floor apartment. The building contained a total of 15 apartments, and there was a heavy smoke condition on all floors.

Crews spent over an hour clearing the smoke from the building. The American Red Cross is assisting some of the occupants with shelter and other needs. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation
