Syracuse, N.Y. – On August 7th at 7:11 pm, city firefighters responded to a house fire at 128 Steuben Street. The first unit was on scene in 3 minutes, and found very heavy smoke and fire in the rear of a one-story single family dwelling. Firefighters immediately began extinguishing the heavy volume of fire, while simultaneously searching for any trapped occupants.
The fire was brought under control in less than 15 minutes. The damage, although extensive, was contained to the rear of the structure. The cause of the fire was determined to be careless disposal of smoking materials. One civilian, a neighbor, received minor injuries while attempting to alert occupants that were thought to be inside. No firefighters were injured, and no one was home at the time of the fire.
