Syracuse Police Arrest 12-Year Old in Recent Mitchell Ave. Occupied Burglary

On Thursday, August 13th, 2020, at around 04:42 A.M., Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Mitchell Ave. for an occupied burglary call.  Reports were made that several juveniles broke into a home.

Upon arrival, Officers observed a vehicle fleeing the residence that was reported as the suspect vehicle. Officer tried to stop the car, but the driver refused. A brief vehicle pursuit ensued. The vehicle eventually crashed into a utility pole in the 500 block of W. Onondaga St.

The driver and several other occupants fled from the car. A foot pursuit started and the driver, a 12 -year-old male, was eventually caught. The other occupants were not located at this time. The 12-year-old suspect was arrested and charged for Burglary in the Second Degree and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. The suspect was released on an appearance ticket.

The vehicle that the 12-year-old suspect was operating to commit the Mitchell Ave. burglary was reported stolen from a burglary that occurred at a residence in the 100 block of St. Louis Ave. The investigations are active and ongoing; anyone with information is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at (315) 442-5222 or by using or Syracuse PD tips app.
