Syracuse Police Arrest Suspect for the Possession of a Loaded Handgun

Syracuse, NY.  On Friday, January 4, 2019, at approximately 6:21pm, Syracuse Police Officers responded to 504 Gifford Street, the Safe Way Market, regarding a menacing investigation.  Upon arrival, officers met with an employee who reported a male pointed a handgun at him.  The employee explained, he had asked a group of males to leave the market.  The group began to argue with him and one of the males pointed a handgun at him and threatened to shoot him.

Police Officer Adam Rachjel relayed a description of the suspect to other officers in the area.  Officers located a male matching the suspect description in the parking lot of 338 Gifford Street.  As Police Officer Nicholas Voggel approached the male, the male ran away.  Officer Voggel pursued the suspect and was able to take him into custody in the 400 block of Gifford Street.  Officers located a Cobra Arms .380 handgun and a loaded Cobra Arms magazine in close proximity to where the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as a 16 year old male.  He was arrested and charged with Menacing in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.  The suspect was lodged at the Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Facility.  Due to his age, the suspect’s name and photograph will not be released.
