Syracuse Police Crime Blotter March 26 – 28, 2021: Vehicle Accidents with Shots Fired, Stabbings, Shooting with Injuries

Vehicle Accident and Shots fired Call – Friday, March 26th, 2021, at around 4:00 P.M., Officers responded to E. Fayette Street and Ellis Street for a motor vehicle collision and shots fired call. Upon arrival, Officers located a Subaru and a Kia that had just collided near the intersection. The investigation revealed that after the collision, occupants of the Kia exited the car, and one of the passengers fired a gun several times towards the Market at Westmorland Avenue and E. Fayette Street.  The driver of the Subaru was transported to the hospital for an evaluation after the crash. No gunshot wound injuries were reported. ​

Shooting with Injuries on South Ave. – Friday, March 26th, 2021, at around 9:30 P.M., Officers responded to the 600 block of South Avenue for a shooting with injuries call. Upon arrival, Officers located a 23-year-old male who was shot in the back of the head at least two times.  The victim was transported to Upstate Hospital, where he is listed in serious condition.

Stabbing Reported on McLennan – Saturday, March 27th, 2021, at around 3:45 A.M., Officers responded to the 200 block of McLennan Avenue for a stabbing call. Upon arrival, Officers located Jasmine Rivers, a 31-year-old female, who was stabbed in the chest.  The victim was transported to Upstate Hospital, where she expected to survive. The investigation revealed that the victim was stabbed by her mother’s boyfriend, John White, 50, during a dispute that the two were having. White was later arrested and charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Fourth Degree.

Unattended Death Call – Saturday, March 27th, 2021, at around 1:12 P.M., Officers responded to 705 Euclid Avenue for a death call. Upon arrival, Officers located a deceased female in the residence. The death is considered non-suspicious at this time. The investigation is active and ongoing; anyone with information is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at (315) 442-5222.

Syracuse Police Investigate Stabbing – Saturday, March 27th, 2021, at around 10:25 P.M., Officers responded to St. Joseph’s Hospital for a stabbing investigation. Upon arrival, Officers located a 34-year-old male who was stabbed in the hand.  The victim drove himself to Upstate Hospital, where he is expected to survive. The incident location is still under investigation.  The case is active and ongoing; anyone with information is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at (315) 442-5222. ​

Shots Fired Call on Matson Ave. No Injuries – Sunday, March 28th, 2021, at around 3:27 A.M., Officers responded to the 100 block of W. Matson Avenue for a shots fired call. Upon arrival, Officers located evidence of a shots fired, and several casings were located. One vehicle was struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported.  The investigation is active and ongoing; anyone with information is asked to call the Syracuse Police Department at (315) 442-5222. ​

SPD Report Stolen Vehicle Involved in Collision after Fleeing – Sunday, March 28th, 2021, at around 2:12 P.M., Officers tried stopping a reported stolen vehicle near Mary Street and Park Street. The driver, Javon Porch, 21, refused to stop and fled from Officers. Officers recognized the driver and knew that he was wanted for various other felony level crimes by another law enforcement agency.  Officers followed the car for several minutes.  During the chase, the stolen vehicle collided with an uninvolved vehicle in the 500 block of Hillsdale Avenue.

The stolen vehicle continued and eventually crashed in the 100 block of Fineview Place.  A Syracuse Police Patrol car crashed at the same location and collided with the stolen vehicle. After the stolen car crashed, Porch and another occupant, Demari Neely, 21, tried fleeing from the vehicle but were quickly apprehended. Porch was later arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, Unlawfully Fleeing, and numerous traffic tickets.

Porch was issued appearance tickets for this incident and then turned over to the Solvay Police Department for his involvement in another incident.  Neely was arrested and charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle. Neely was released on an appearance ticket.  The Officer involved in the crash was transported to Upstate Hospital with a leg injury and later released.
