Syracuse Police Department Announce “Distracted Driving Enforcement Period” aka don’t text or use devices while driving

The Syracuse Police Department will be participating in the 2019 NYS Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee Distracted Driving Enforcement period.  The enforcement period will commence on April 11th, 2019 and run through April 15th, 2019.  During this time, violations involving use of cellular phones and other electronic devices that are not hands free will be strictly enforced.

The penalties can range from $50 to $450 in fines, up to 5 driver violation points, and suspension or revocation of license.  The intent of this enforcement wave is to reduce the number of distracted driving related motor vehicle collisions that result in property damage, serious physical injury and fatalities.  We encourage all motorists to stay alert while on the roadways and resist temptation to utilize electronic devices without a hands free device while driving.
