It was determined that the actions of the suspect were reckless in nature and there was no intent to cause the death of the victim.
The Syracuse Police Department has made an arrest in a homicide on Ballantyne Rd. On Tuesday, January 22, 2019, at about 1:32 P.M., the Syracuse Police Department responded to 921 Ballantyne Rd apartment # 2 for a call of a shooting. Upon Officers arrival, they located a 14-year-old female victim, Mya Killeen who had been shot. She was transported to Upstate University Hospital by AMR Ambulance critical condition. She later died as a result of her injury.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division commenced an investigation. During the course of that investigation, it was revealed that Mya Killeen was shot by a 13 year old male suspect. It was determined that the actions of the suspect were reckless in nature and there was no intent to cause the death of the victim.
That suspect was taken into custody today and arrested on the charges of Manslaughter 2nd and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd. He will be arraigned this afternoon in family court. Due to his age, neither his name nor his photograph will be released.
