Syracuse Police Investigate an Officer Involved Shooting on Grant Blvd (Updated 1/2/20)

On Tuesday, December 31st, 2019 at around 4:46 PM, Officers responded to a residence in the 700 block of Grant Blvd for a menacing complaint. Officers received reports that a male, Michael Viola, 22, of Syracuse was threatening family members with an edged weapon. 

Upon Officer’s arrival, they encountered a 22-year-old male who was armed with an edged weapon. The Officers then discharged their weapon, striking the male. The male was transported to Upstate Hospital, where is in critical but stable condition.   

The investigation is active and on going.
