Syracuse Police Report on Shadetta Franklin Homicide Investigation

September 17th‘ 2020, at around 7:12 PM, Syracuse Police Officers responded to the 100 blk. Of Oakwood Ave. in regards to a shooting with injuries call. Upon arrival, Officers located a female victim, identified as 29-year-old Shadetta Franklin, in the roadway. It was evident that she had been shot. She was subsequently transported via AMR paramedics to University Hospital for emergency treatment of her injuries. She was pronounced deceased a short time later.

An investigation was immediately commenced by CID Detectives, during the course of which numerous people were interviewed, and an extensive neighborhood canvass was conducted. Physical evidence relative to the incident was collected, and several search warrants were executed.

As a result of the above efforts, a suspect in this investigation was identified as 22-year-old, Anthony Sutton Jr.

September 29th ‘2020,  Sutton Jr. was taken into custody in the 4000 blk. of S. Salina St., by CID Detectives without incident.

In regard to this investigation, Anthony Sutton Jr. was charged with the following crimes: One count of Murder in the Second Degree; One count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. At the time of his arrest, Sutton Jr. was also wanted on an (unrelated) SPD arrest warrant charging him with Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. 

He was lodged in the Onondaga County Justice Center, where he remains. The investigation is still continuing.
