Syracuse Woman Wins $10,000,000 on Lottery Scratch-Off Ticket

Fifty-six-year-old Tarea Teasley of Syracuse started playing the Lottery’s new $350,000,000 Cash Spectacular a few weeks ago because she liked the colors on the ticket.  Teasley was excited to win $50 on the ticket and decided to reinvest her winnings and buy another one.  That ticket turned out to be a $10,000,000 winner making the customer service representative an instant multi-millionaire.

“I had been playing another game, but switched to this one because I liked the colors,” said Teasley.  “I won $50 and decided to buy another one with the winnings.”

Teasley sent her daughter to the Tops Friendly Markets on Nottingham Road to get another $350,000,000 Cash Spectacular ticket.  “I didn’t think it was real at first.  I sat down for a second and then understood what I had won.”

Teasley will receive her $10,000,000 prize as a one-time lump sum payment.  She will receive a net check totaling $6,718,000 after required withholdings.

When asked how it feels to win the Lottery Teasley said, “I’m happy, but it’s unreal!”  Onondaga county’s newest Lottery multi-millionaire will take some time to decide how she will spend her newfound fortune.

Teasley is the 18th New York Lottery player to claim a prize totaling $1,000,000 or more in 2018.

The New York Lottery contributed $109,010,722 in Lottery Aid to Education to school districts in Onondaga County during fiscal year 2016-2017.

About the New York Lottery

The New York Lottery continues to be North America’s largest and most profitable Lottery, contributing $3.27 billion in fiscal year 2016-2017 to help support education in New York State. The Lottery’s contribution represents approximately 14 percent of total state education aid to local school districts.

New York Lottery revenue is distributed to local school districts by the same statutory formula used to distribute other state aid to education. It takes into account both a school district’s size and its income level; larger, lower-income school districts receive proportionately larger shares of Lottery school funding.
