The Investigation of Fatal Crash involving SU Basketball Coach Jim Boeheim on I690/Thompson Rd Continuing

On Wednesday, February 20th, 2019, at 11:22 P.M., the Syracuse Police Department, along with the Syracuse Fire Dept and AMR Ambulance Service responded to 690 East Bound near Thompson Rd in regards to a vehicle crash resulting in serious injuries. It was later determined two separate crashes had occurred. One crash resulting in fatal injuries to Jorge Jimenez, 51, of Syracuse, NY, and another crash with minor injuries to Osvaldo Rivera-Olivo, 49, of Syracuse, NY.

The SPD Traffic Section responded to investigate the fatal crash and is in the process of reconstructing the scene and determining contributing factors. This process is currently projected to be completed next week.  The investigation will be sent to the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office for review upon completion.

At this time, it does not appear driver distraction or impairment was a contributing factor for either driver in either crash.
