The Syracuse Police Makes an Arrest in Criminal Mischief Investigation

On Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at around 1:00 PM the Syracuse Police Department was notified of a criminal mischief incident by the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety. The notification was made after a series of new graffiti markings were discovered on campus.

The Department of Public Safety was able to develop suspect information and in conjunction with the Syracuse Police Department, was able to locate the suspect. Through efforts lead by SPD’s Criminal Investigations Division, camera footage was reviewed and interviews were completed. Based on statements made, it appears the graffiti was intended to be in support of the campus protests.

As result of that investigation, an arrest was made. Kym McGowan, 18, of Syracuse was arrested for criminal mischief in the fourth degree and making graffiti, both misdemeanors. McGowan was released on an appearance ticket.
