The Syracuse Police Release New Policy ‘Interactions with Transgender Persons‘

The Syracuse Police Department has released a new policy entitled Interactions with Transgender Persons.

Syracuse Police Chief Kenton Buckner wishes to recognize community members that gave their time and expertise to craft this important addition to the current SPD Rules & Regulations.

The policy work group include LoriKim Alexander – BlackCuse Pride; Loren Cunningham – Vera House; Crystal Doody – Onondaga County Human Rights Commissioner; Gloria Gaye – Vera House; Kenji Irby –Contributor; Zaire Knight – Contributor; Mallory Livingston – Volunteer Lawyer’s Project of Onondaga County & Transgender Alliance of Central New York; Rahzie Seals – BlackCuse Pride; Ayyhaunnah Vihlen; members of the Syracuse Police Department

Policy work group members collaborated over many sessions to develop this document.

This policy will be added to the curriculum for the Syracuse Regional Police Academy, which will begin a new class in January. Training of the new policy to the entire workforce is also planned.
