The Syracuse Police Respond to a One-Year-Old Drowning Call

On Sunday, August 23rd, 2020, at around 2:39 P.M., Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of W. Newell St. for a drowning call. Upon arrival, Officers were informed that a one-year-old child had been submerged in water by a three-year-old sibling while in the bathtub and was unresponsive.

Officers Joseph Blazey and Shaquille Muhammad responded and immediately began to provide first aid to the child and started CPR. A few moments later, the child coughed up water and began breathing again. Fire Dept and AMR ambulance responded to assist as well. The child was taken to Upstate Hospital, where he is expected to survive. Child Protective Services was notified of the incident.
