Syracuse, N.Y. – City of Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh will discuss his job duties and how he is guiding the city through the pandemic during a Zoom public forum from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday hosted by Syracuse University’s Thursday Morning Roundtable.
When Walsh was elected as the 54th mayor of Syracuse in 2017, he became the city’s first independent mayor in more than 100 years. During his first three years in office, Syracuse has experienced reductions in vacant housing, crime and poverty and has seen an increase in high school graduation rates, household income and private sector jobs.
Wash’s vision for Syracuse – to be a growing city that embraces diversity and creates opportunity for all – has guided the city’s decision-making and led to the creation of the Syracuse Surge strategy for inclusive growth in the new economy. Working closely with the state and Onondaga County, Walsh has helped protect the health and security of city residents during the unprecedented challenge of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Now in its 55th year, Thursday Morning Roundtable features speakers who discuss current topics in Central New York. Following the forum, residents can use the chat function to ask questions and Emily Winiecki, community engagement coordinator for Syracuse University’s Office of Community Engagement, will moderate the Q&A session.
The media is invited to watch and submit questions during the Q&A session following Walsh’s presentation. If media uses information from the forum, please credit Thursday Morning Roundtable as the Office of Community Engagement wants residents to identify TMR as a community resource.
