Thursday Morning Roundtable: Join the Conversation! Dec. 3: “State of Criminal Justice in Onondaga County”

In order to stay safe during this difficult time, Syracuse University’s Office of Community Engagement continue holding Thursday Morning Roundtable in a virtual format. They will again use Zoom to hear presentations from speakers and facilitate a Q&A after the presentation.

Onondaga County District Attorney William J. Fitzpatrick will discuss the state of criminal justice in Onondaga County during a Zoom public forum from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday hosted by Syracuse University’s Thursday Morning Roundtable.

Now serving his seventh four-year term as district attorney, Fitzpatrick has worked in the Onondaga County District Attorney’s Office for more than 30 years and has been involved with a variety of cases that have covered every facet of the law. The jurisdiction of his office includes the City of Syracuse and Onondaga County, with a total population of just under 500,000 people.

Criminal justice reform was a key talking point of the presidential election, and it continues to be a hot topic nationwide as citizens have had to distinguish between calls to defund the police and efforts to improve accountability and fairness.

Now in its 55th year, Thursday Morning Roundtable features speakers who discuss current topics in Central New York. Following the forum, residents can use the chat function to ask questions and Emily Winiecki, community engagement coordinator for Syracuse University’s Office of Community Engagement, will moderate the Q&A session.

The media is invited to watch and submit questions for Fitzpatrick at the end of the forum. If media uses information from the forum, please credit Thursday Morning Roundtable as the Office of Community Engagement wants residents to identify TMR as a community resource.
