Town of Salina Man on the Run; Apprehended in North Carolina

Town of Salina, New York – On November 25th the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office reports that a Town of Salina man is back in police custody after being apprehended in North Carolina.

Matthew Brennan (22) of Hyland Drive, had been on the run from authorities since November 2nd, the day that one year old Mason Washburn died from his injuries he sustained from being assaulted by Brennan in August of 2018. Brennan was originally charged with Reckless Assault of a Child on October 3rd, 2018. He was accused of violently shaking Washburn causing a severe hemorrhage to the infant’s brain along with other injuries.

After failing to appear in County Court earlier this month, Sheriff’s detectives assigned to the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, along with members of the U.S. Marshals, launched an investigation into Brennan’s whereabouts and were able to track his travels to Winnabow North Carolina.

With the assistance from the U.S. Marshals Carolina Regional Fugitive Task Force, Brennan was apprehended on Thursday and is awaiting extradition back to New York State.
