Training for Outstanding Healthcare Career Opportunities Available at OCC

Prospective students need only a GED or high school diploma to enroll

OCC’s Placement Coordinator will work tirelessly to help students find employment after completion

If you’ve ever considered a career in health care, Onondaga Community College has two outstanding and rewarding opportunities. Prospective students only need a high school diploma or GED to qualify for Medical Assistant and Medical Billing classes. The short-term training will lead directly to living wage jobs.

Medical Assistant

Onondaga Community College

The Medical Assistant plays an essential role in medical offices assisting with patient care and office management.

  • Classes start Monday, January 28. They run Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for 9 months.
  • The program includes a seven week practicum with a local employer.
  • Financial Aid is available.
  • The course instructor has over 25 years of industry experience.
  • There were over 100 open Medical Assistant positions open in Central New York in the past year. We have a Placement Coordinator who will help you find a job after completion.
  • The starting salary is approximately $12 an hour or up to $25,000 annually.
  • Medical Assistant information sessions will be held Tuesday, December 4 at 6 p.m. and Monday December 10 at 2 p.m. in Mulroy Hall, 4926 Onondaga Road (Route 173) Syracuse 13215.

Medical Billing

A Medical Biller is responsible for submitting medical claims to insurance companies and payers such as Medicare and Medicaid. The position is critical to the financial cycle of all health care providers including single-provider practices and large medical centers. Medical Billers work in billing companies, physician offices, hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare facilities.

  • Classes start Monday, January 28. They run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for 6 months.
  • The program includes a five week practicum with a local employer.
  • There are 10 full scholarships available for the unemployed or underemployed. Financial aid is also available.
  • The course instructor has over 25 years of industry experience.
  • There were over 100 open Medical Billing positions open in Central New York in the past year.
  • The starting salary is approximately $13 an hour or $27,000 annually. We have a Placement Coordinator who will help you find a job after completion.
  • Medical Billing information sessions will be held Thursday, December 6 at 6 p.m. and Wednesday December 12 at 2 p.m. Both sessions will be in Mulroy Hall, 4926 Onondaga Road (Route 173), Syracuse 13215.
