Two-Alarm Fire at Parkside Commons

Syracuse, N.Y. – At 8:19 A.M. this morning, Syracuse Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire at the Parkside Commons Complex located at 203 Westmoreland Avenue. The fire was on the top floor of a 3-story brick, multiple occupancy residential apartment building. First arriving fire crews arrived on scene in 2 minutes with heavy fire showing and multiple residents hanging out of 3rd floor windows.

Crews immediately began attacking the fire and rescuing victims from multiple windows via ground ladders. Simultaneously, other interior fire crews conducted searches of the building and brought multiple occupants to safety utilizing interior stairwells. Over 50 firefighters responded to the scene and the fire was extinguished in approximately 20 minutes. Syracuse firefighters and crews from AMR treated four patients on scene and one was transported to the hospital. The status of that patient is unavailable at this time.

Syracuse Police, National Grid, and the local chapter of the American Red Cross also responded to the incident.  Members of the Syracuse Fire Department Investigation Bureau are currently working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.
