Utica Laborers Recruit Apprentices

UTICA, NY (05/27/2010)(readMedia)– The Laborers’ International Union of North America, Local Union # 35, will conduct a recruitment from May 28, 2010 through May 27, 2011 for five skilled construction craft laborer apprentices, State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.

Applications can be obtained at the Local # 35, 112 South Street, Utica, NY, on last Friday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., excluding legal holidays, during the recruitment period. Note: If the last Friday of the month is a holiday, the recruitment date will be moved to the previous Friday of that month.

The Committee requires that applicants:

∙ Must be at least 18 years old.

∙ Must be a high school graduate or have a general equivalency diploma (G.E.D).

∙ Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and related instruction classes.

∙ Must be physically able to perform the work required as determined by physical and drug test administered by a physician at sponsor’s expense – after acceptance into the program.

∙ Must have six months of trade related experience.

∙ Must be resident of Local # 35 jurisdiction: Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Hamilton Counties; Townships of Stratford, Oppenheim, Caroga, Ephrata of Fulton County; Townships of St. Johnsville, Minden, Canajoharie, Palatine, Root of Montgomery County.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
