Weekend Report January 9-10: Syracuse Police Respond to Shots Fired, Stabbing and Assault

Police Investigate Rowland Ave Shooting and Assault – Saturday, January 9th, 2021, at around 7:18 P.M., Officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Rowland St. for a shooting with injuries call. Upon arrival, Officers located a 20-year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. The victim was transported to Upstate Hospital, where she is expected to survive.

Officers also located a 42-year-old female victim with a head injury. This victim was treated on scene by EMS personnel. The investigation revealed that a suspect, James Bell, 45, had a dispute with the two victims before the shots were fired. During the dispute, Bell shot the 20-year-old victim in the leg and struck the 42-year-old victim in the head with a handgun. Bell was later located at his residence in the same block.

Bell was arrested and charged with Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

Syracuse Police Respond to Stabbing on Barnes Ave. – Sunday, January 10th, 2021, at around 2:26 A.M., Officers responded to Upstate Hospital Emergency Room for a stabbing investigation. Upon arrival, Officers located a 24-year-old male victim who drove himself to the hospital after being stabbed.

The victim was found to be stabbed several times in both arms. The victim is expected to survive. The incident location was found to be in front of a residence in the 600 block of Barnes Ave. The investigation is active and ongoing.

Shots Fired Call on Brighton Ave. – Sunday, January 10th, 2021, at around 1:27 A.M., Officers responded to the 700 block of Brighton Ave. for a shots fired call. Upon arrival, Officers located evidence of a shots fired, and several casings were located.
